Kent was a National level skater in Pairs, Dance and Singles and was an Eastern Canadian Pair Gold medalist as well as a Central Ontario Sectional Gold medalist in Pairs, Singles and Dance. As a Level III Certified Coach, with partial level IV completed and 31 years of coaching experience (18 years at National and International level). Kent also directed the Learn to Skate program at the Richmond Training Centre for 10 years.

Kent has coached skaters who have won Canadian championships such as Johanna Purdy and Kevin Maguire (Junior Pair Champions 2001), Marni Wade and Lenny Faustino (Novice Pair Champions 1996) and coached first ever Central Ontario Sectional Juvenile Ladies Champion Ashley Soldera.
